The course was designed and founded in 1989 by D. Justo Quesada and quickly grew in popularity thanks to its proximity to Alicante – in fact, it was once said that 80% of players from the Alicante province had hit their first golf ball at La Marquesa.

The La Finca is one of three golf courses in the area owned by the QUARA Group – QUARA also owns Villamartin and Las Ramblas. It is a young field, having just opened to the public in summer 2002. Despite its relative youth, it is one of the most successful courses on the Costa Blanca and is very popular with residents and visitors alike. It was designed by renowned Spanish designer Pepe Gancedo and boasts generous fairways, spectacular greens and cleverly thought out contours – all of the ingredients for an interesting game of golf no matter what your skill level. The lake in the middle comes into play many times as does the ravine that runs down the side of the first nine. The course itself has a wonderfully equipped Club House with great facilities and buggy hire, as well as a well-stocked pro shop.

The course is set against a backdrop of the Callosa del Segura mountain, making for an impressive overall scene.  Add the impressive five star hotel and the fact that La Finca was voted number 46 in the top 100 golf courses in Spain and you’ve got the perfect place to enjoy a fourball with friends.  See a hole-by-hole guide to the course by clicking here.

Villamartin Golf

Tel: 96 676 51 70

GPS 37° 56′ 29.27″ N, 0° 45′ 29.7″ W

Villamartin golf course is probably one of the most well-known courses on the southern Costa Blanca and is ranked number 68 in the top 100 golf courses in Spain.  The course itself was constructed and built by Mr. Putmann in the early 70s and opened for business in June 1972.

Villamartin has hosted many prestigious tournaments over the years, including the 1994 Mediterranean Open which was won by Jose Maria Olazabal after a nail-biting play-off with Paul McGinley.

From a player’s point of view, Villamartin Golf Club has an exciting design and many challenges. The course is par 72 and the length is 6132 meters from the white tees, 6037 from yellow, and 5259 from red. Hole 17 is the Par 3 signature hole with a demanding 200m carry off the back tee onto an undulating green. The shot from the tee crosses a tree-lined deep ravine that protects the hole and presents a challenge to most players.

The course is very diverse and unlike many other courses in this part of Spain, none of the holes are equal. The mature trees, abundance of wildlife and occasional glimpse of the med from the course means that Villamartin is a favourite among golfers.

For a preview of the course, you can see a hole-by-hole guide by clicking here.

For the non golfer, Villamartin offers a multitude of things to do.  Villamartin square is a hub of commercial activity with shops, restaurants, bars and beauticians.  A mere five-minute drive away is Zenia Boulevard shopping and leisure centre and of course, a stone’s throw from there are the beautiful blue flag beaches of the Orihuela Costa.
